Here’s the Deal.

I keep telling myself it is probably a dream. I’m actually 28, and it’s a nightmare that I have a dysfunctional back, a blind eye, a pseudo-husband with cancer, a personal problem that I am not ready to discuss but want to, and am unemployed, broke, busted, and disgusted!

So I close my eyes, and drift off, secure in the knowledge that this too shall pass.

Then I open them. It didn’t pass. It’s me. This is real life. This is my life!

And I’d damn well better get used to it!

I plan to live a good, long time. And I plan to enjoy it to the max. After solving that little personal problem, and finding some method of earning a living that my #*%! body can handle. I’m working on that. (I know. I must be kidding myself!) Okay, I guess I am!

But I can’t drive due to the eye, and I can’t teach, because with my back and bad balance from The Eye, I’d knock the children down the steps and kill them. Accidentally! This wouldn’t look good on my record. You know?

So I’m bopping along, trying to stay afloat, and trying to find a way to last a bit longer in this wonderful world we call the America From Hell.

Too harsh? OK. I’ll try to chill out while you read a blog post.

More to come. I really do hope you stay tuned. My mood is getting a lot better!

What do you think?

I found Dr. Abu on the web when my finances were in real trouble. My husband had gambled away most of our savings, I had no job, and we were facing foreclosure. I needed a money spell from Dr. Abu, and quick. I can’t believe how understanding he was. After ordering the spell, I felt much more confident that things would turn out. Believe it or not, it did. I won $150,000.00 the following week, found a high paying job and my husband went into treatment for gammbling addiction. We’re doing much better now and we get to keep the house. Thank you, Dr. Abu, for being there when my heart needed it the most. If you need help in any area of your life just contact this good man and he will help you at once. • Oh, dear one! So good to see you, albeit SO late. I’m fine.

Just so in love with my work with the kids (struggling readers, children who can’t read) that I can’t seem to tear myself away. I think of it, I dream it, I obsess…it’s just so much FUN to figure out the problems and solve them.

I probably answered this long ago, but it popped up again and showed its face. Who understands the ways of The Blog? I certainly don’t!

    • Hi, Kevin, welcome, and I’m so glad you came by. You know, I’m not mad anymore. That’s the thing. Since I wrote this a year ago, things have improved for me dramatically. Your response was fantastic to read, because it shows me something I hadn’t even realized!

I had better write a new home page, because this one is now inaccurate! I’m in a better time and place, although I DO still think that America is in a terrible place, and it’s getting worse.

Frankly, some good old-fashioned acts of rebellion like there were in the 60′s are overdue, and I hope they happen. We have to show Congress that this dead-in-the-water lack of working together is a nightmare, and it’s literally killing people caught in the middle.

Paula, if it’s any consolation, I feel that a lot of people feel the same as you. The funny thing is, at my lowest, I can open up my comments page and some lovely commenter has left such a nice message that it brings me back from the brink with some unknowingly magic words. Or you can read someone’s site whose words echo your own thoughts at the time and shrug off some of the weight on your shoulders realizing that it’s shared weight.
What I’m saying is, hang in there, judging by your own comments people appreciate you. It’s more than a lot can say at their worst.

Paula, if you were a rapper they would call you MC Truth or DJ Truth… or something like that! There is nothing more admirable that truth tellers. People who tell it like it is without (too much) fear.

I enjoy reading a lot of blogs and let me tell you, few people do it quite like you. You speak with a stinging honesty that makes folks first gasp, then identify, and then think, ‘hey perhaps I could be more real too.’
I am so happy that you signed up as I most certainly will also to ensure that I keep reading more of your truth. I’m greedy. I know when I’m on to a good thing. Plus if I can keep internetically (made that up!) popping round to visit and make sure you keep standing shoulder high and the gorgeous Tipsy has been fed and watered it would be my delight, my benefit and my honour.

  19. Hey, Paula, (Isn’t that a song?) I think I just dated myself. As to age, pick one you like and stick with it. In first grade my son was having trouble getting started reading and a special teacher gave him some extra time. After reading his first book with no pictures he said; “Reading is like having a TV inside your head.” I’ll be forever grateful to that teacher, and to all teachers, including you, who recognize the differences between learning styles.
Your story is moving and inspiring. I have a story for you about overcoming adversity but I don’t know you well enough, and lots of those stories make me want to punch someone. Like when people look at my drawings and say, “I know someone who has no hands and she draws with her feet.”
I’m keeping your blog on my Bookmark Menu.

    • If you hadn’t mentioned Hey, Hey, Paula it would have hurt my feelings! It comes up at least daily in my life. So no, you haven’t dated yourself. Besides, we deserve to be dated…we’ve put in our time! ;)

Your son is a genius. That is an awesome way to describe reading, and I’ve actually used it to help kids “get it.” But he came up with it all on his own! Really bright kid, for sure.

Yes, sometimes one special teacher who realizes what the child needs and supplies it is all it takes to solve the reading issue. So many kids need just a bit of help to get past the block and get moving.

I don’t even understand someone who would make such a nutso comment about art when looking at your stuff. Say WHAT?? I think it’s delightful!

Your blog is in my bookmarks as well! Thanks for coming by, Barbara. :)

        Hi, Paula,
I’m glad to hear from you–I’ve checked a few times and was getting a little worried. The slow times, like you’ve been experiencing, can be discouraging but I’ve found that they never last and sometimes they’re more like fallow periods when the earth is replenishing itself, or the well is re-filling.
Thanks for the kind words about my son–he is definitely a keeper–and about my work. Actually, nobody I cared about said that about drawing with your toes, but a teacher did look at my work and say;”Well, I can see you’re a very conscienscious [Okay, I'm having bear of a time spelling this word, and it's important to the story--do you know what I mean? Very responsible] person, but nine to five isn’t art.” That hurt, but it didn’t stop me. I put aside my intensive pen and ink and worked in collage–got a lot freer and looser and eventually came up with new work that was better and more interesting. It ended up being a good thing, because he wasn’t dismissive–he recognized my seriousness. By the end of the year he was telling me he looked forward to seeing what I would do, and holding up my work to the class.
Let’s all just keep on keeping on.
        Have a great Sunday!

Glad to have found your blog, you have a great style – especially for a 28 year old! Age is only a number, I think that’s what people usually say, but they – whoever they are – are right for once. There’s no reality only our realisation of how things are. So lets make our own reality – the bottle is half full and other cliches. Take care – Mike.

Thanks a MILLION for coming by. Yepper, I do tell the truth here. It’s a great relief, actually. People do ask me about a book, assuming I’m writing one. I say yes, I am, and have been for 20 years. Does that give you a clue about its lack of wonderfulness? I trash more than I keep!
